Microsoft's bid for passing OoXML, a completely and utterly redundant and broken and deficient specification, to ISO failed! They have one more chance, in February, to get this passed. I'm not sure if there's anything you, my gentle readers, can do about it, but rest secure in the knowledge that even Microsoft couldn't outright buy the standards making process. If I find out action to take, I'll let you know. In the meantime, use OpenOffice.org as it supports a real, strong, already-passed standard, ODF.

Election Power Play by CA Republicans

The California Republicans are trying to get a ballot measure passed that would allocate electoral votes by Congressional District rather than by state. While this *seems* to be a "fair distribution" move, it really isn't. The Republicans are trying to rig the Electoral College system. They say "fair distribution"; they mean "more votes for us". "But mommy, I didn't win the auction, make them cut up the toy train and give me half!" What's next? Electing two Governors, one to rules over the Republican districts and one over the Democratic districts? Re-drawing the lines so *every* district favors the Republicans (they've done it! look at Texas...). This is a broad jump down a slippery slope, and something which must be opposed.

For the record: these views are mine and mine alone. I do not represent any organization, group, confederacy, cabal, mercenary troop, Viking raiding party, or interstellar merchants guild.
Answer the following questions with the first thought that comes to mind. Then read which each answer means. (No cheating! )

1. You are not alone. You are walking in the woods. Who is with you?

'Nita

2. You are walking in the woods. You see an animal. What kind of animal?

Fox

3. What interaction takes place between you and the animal?

I give it a bit of bread (do foxes eat bread? well, I do anyway..)

4. You walk deeper in the woods. You enter a clearing, and before you is
your DREAM house. How big is it?

uhm, small-ish? 2 or 3 bedroom cottage, 2 level

5. Is your dream house surrounded by a fence?

no

6. You enter the house. You walk into the dining room and see the dining
room table. What do you see on AND around it?

apples on it, in a kind of bowl. small wooden chairs around it, stained dark. it's covered in a reddish tablecloth

7. You exit the house and a cup is on the ground, what kind is it?

white porcelain teacup

8. What do you do with the cup?

turn it upright and leave it sitting by the doormat

9. You walk to the edge of the property where you find yourself standing at a body of water. What kind of water is it?

a kidney-shaped pond--like a full rain basin

10. How will you get across it?

Walk around the edge, watching the reflection of trees

1. The person who you are walking in the woods with is the most important person in your life.

2. The size of the animal is representative of your perception of the size of your problems in your life.

3. The severity of the interaction you have with the animal is representative of how you deal with your problems.

4. The size of your dream home is representative of the size of your ambition to solve your problems.

5. A lack of a fence is indicative of an open personality. People are welcome at all times. The presence of a fence indicates a closed personality. You'd prefer people not drop by unannounced.

6. If your answer did NOT include food, flowers, or people, then you are generally unhappy.

7. The durability of the material with the cup is made of is representative of the perceived durability of your relationship.

8. What you did with the cup is representative of your attitude.

9. The size of the body of water is representative of the size of your sexual desire.

10. The way you cross the water is representative to how easy or hard you expect your life to be.
I have some new photography up. I'm learning more and more each time :-D For example, this time I learned about composition guides such as the "rule of thirds" and the "golden mean". Note that I did these pictures before learning that, so don't expect magic just yet ;)

An old-style photo of a new-style lamp

A tree "in the family way"

The beautiful child of same :-D

and

The lovely bit of enablement my sweetheart gave me.

Enjoy! My username is languidnights because I was creating a place to put poetry a long time ago, and it required me to enter a username, so I came up with the first vaguely-poetic thing I could recall. I have no recollection of where I heard the term, though.

2. My journal is titled "Shades of Nothingness" because it, like me, borders on the verge of No-Thing. I was feeling a little zen when I first typed it in ;)

3. My subtitle is "Reason's got nothing to do with it" because, well, it don't. This was, at one point, one of my all-time favorite sayings.

4. My friends page is called "Friends" because I quite frankly just now learned you could change it.

5. My default userpic is "vitae" because I am a vitae. I have been a vitae since I started on the internet, and it has become a strong part of my identity. Also, it allowed nyessax to know who I was when I first showed it to her, which indirectly led to a happy relationship :-D (I'm obviously prescient and knew this would happen).
